Love Music Hate Racism weekender comes to Magnet, Liverpool with Norman Jay to launch Merseyside LMHR

Just over a year ago LMHR organised a Liverpool tribute concert for murdered black teenager Anthony Walker, headlined by Ms Dynamite.

LMHR has been working with the Anthony Walker Foundation and with local performers like Fade 2, DJ Shinobi and Urbeatz since last year’s event.

While Anthony’s killers have been brought to justice, the racism and fascist activity which led to his death is unfortunately very much still with us. Representatives of the fascist British National Party (BNP) publicly criticised the Walker family for their involvement in Love Music Hate Racism and then proceeded to insultingly stand for election in Huyton in May. More recently, prominent anti-fascist Liverpool trade union leader Alec McFadden was viciously attacked at his own home after appearing on BNP-affiliated hate “website” Redwatch.

We are therefore very pleased to announce the launch of a Merseyside branch of the national LMHR campaign. The Merseyside LMHR group was formed at a meeting two weeks ago at Liverpool club The Magnet, and consists of local promoters, musicians, campaigners, cultural groups and anti-racist music fans. Merseyside LMHR will help organise anti-racist music events in the region to complement and work alongside existing campaigns such as MCARF, Unite Against Fascism and the Anthony Walker Foundation.

The Magnet is also the venue for the first official Merseyside LMHR event this coming weekend. See below for organiser Noel Bent’s take on the event, which features a magnificent line-up of music headlined by legendary DJ Norman Jay.

Sponsored by Merseyside TUC as well as various commercial sponsors, the Saturday night of this great weekender will be used to officially launch Merseyside LMHR, with campaign speakers getting the anti-racist message across amid the great music.

Noel Bent, Event Organiser Most of the things we like have a downside, right? We like a few too many shandies and we end up in a gutter somewhere smelling like rotten vegetables. We like to puff on the odd ciggie despite knowing that it?

Go on, say something
