TRADE UNIONS WIN RIGHT TO EXPEL BNP NAZIS

Very good news today as the European Court of Human Rights has upheld a union’s decision to expel a British National Party (BNP) activist. Train drivers’ union ASLEF kicked out well-known BNP fascist Jay Lee in 2002 but his expulsion had been overturned by an Employment Tribunal. This sends out a message that promoting racism and fascism will not be tolerated by our society and the trade unions, which are set up to unite and represent all working people, do not have to accept BNP members into their fold who are hellbent on dividing people and stirring up racism. The ruling is tribute to the hard work that anti-fascist trade unionists have put in, both in trying to keep Nazis out of their ranks, but also in solidly supporting anti-fascist campaigns like LMHR and Unite.
