“Scientist”, James Watson’s theory was last week splashed on the front cover of The Independent (Wednesday 17 October 2007) which read “Africans are less intelligent than Westerners, says DNA pioneer”. Following a huge response from campaigners and other scientists opposing his views, Watson has since had meetings and lecture tours cancelled and suspended from his academic post.

In the article which continued on page 2 of the paper, Watson went on to say that “Western policies towards African countries were wrongly based on an assumption that black people were as clever as their white counterparts when ‘testing’ suggested the contrary”, he also mentioned that “all our social policies are based on the fact that their (black people) intelligence is the same as ours ?
