By Andrew Smith.
Though more commonly-namechecked bands like The Clash are often credited with the significant popular cultural fusion of reggae and punk in the late 1970s there is one band which should be far from overlooked … Much of The Ruts’ reggae-punk sound can be credited to the cutting, jagged guitar sound of Paul Fox … His influence for those who have discovered his work is phenomenal and credit will always go to him for his anti-fascist work and his influence on the anti-racist cultural movement of the late 1970s.

NME and the LMHR CD

Part one of the Love Music Hate Racism album comes free with this week’s NME (17 – 23 October), with the second half available as a free download. The album sends out a strong message against the BNP and their attempts to target schools.

The NME also has a major feature on Love Music Hate Racism and the bands behind the album, making it essential reading – get down to your local newsagents or supermarket and make sure you dont miss out on a copy. You can also buy the issue online

Unite Against Fascism welcomes the decision of the Science Museum and Bristol’s Festival of Ideas to cancel the events scheduled around the Nobel Prize winner James Watson, the cancellation of the remainder of his book promotion tour next week and his suspension from his position at the Cold Harbour Reseach Laboratory. Watson used his position as a world famous, eminent scientist to express deeply abhorrent racist views which belong to white supremacists and neo-Nazis. His comments were rightly totally rejected by the length and breadth of the scientific community here in Britain and in the USA, as not having any scientific basis.
