That was the headline from Tuesday’s Independent front page, after more than 2,000 people joined the Unite Against Fascism demonstration and disrupted the planned address of the Oxford Union by fascist BNP leader Nick Griffin and Nazi “historian” David Irving. LMHR played our part in too, with Oxford musicians like Dusty Soundystem and Mr Shaodow playing superbly inbetween speakers on a PA arranged by major Oxford music festival Truck, positively emphasising the multicultural society the BNP would want to get rid of.
The fascists are trying to get respectability for their racist anti-democratic poisonous views by “debating” at universities under the guise of free speech. But there is no debate to be had with those who want to encourage attacks on non-whites and to destroy democracy and no free speech for the Nazis’ victims. All the BNP do is use such debates as a platform, but Monday’s protest shows they can be stopped. Check the full report of Monday night’s events on the UAF website

Convicted Holocaust-denier David Irving and BNP leader Nick Griffin, who has a conviction for inciting racial hatred, have been invited to address Oxford Union’s free speech forum.
Unite Against Fascism and Oxford University Students Union are campaigning to stop fascists being given a platform. We must ensure that we replicate the successful campaign which stopped Nick Griffin speaking at Bath University this May.
Demonstration: Monday 26 November 7pm, outside the Oxford Union, St. Michael Street, Oxford

The Oxford Union should not be providing a platform for fascist British National Party (BNP) leader Nick Griffin and Holocaust denier David Irving in the Free Speech Forum on Monday 26 November. Unite Against Fascism are calling the Oxford Union to rescind the invitations to Griffin and Irving and replace them with speakers that support freedom of speech. There is a world of difference between defending free speech and choosing to provide a platform for fascists. Show your support and say no to fascists in Oxford by attending UAF’s rally around Oxford Town Hall on Tuesday 20th November at 7.30pm and Demonstration on the 26th outside the Oxford Union at 7pm.
