Wednesday 14th January 2009, 7,.30pm
Astoria, Charing Cross Road, London WC1
Sam Duckworth (Get Cape. Wear Cape Fly) and others have put together a one off show to mark the sad closure of the much-loved venue, the Astoria. As Sam says “Manumission have the honour of hosting the final night but we thought it wouldn’t be right for the capital’s most iconic venue to close without a few live bands.”
Lee Billingham from LMHR said: “The Astoria is a fantastic music venue which has been a real friend to the anti-fascist cause over the years, hosting the first major LMHR gig (The Libertines in 2004), the launch of the Unite Against Fascism campaign and many other events, so we’re honoured to be associated with this night, if very sad that it’s going.”
The line up so far includes:
Special Guests (TBA)
The Automatic (monstrously popular Cardiff boys)
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly (accoustic indie LMHR-stalwarts)
My Vitriol (alt rockers fresh from their sell out tour)
Frank Turner (Ex Million Dead singer brings us Billy Bragg-esque folk-punk)
The King Blues (fast rising punk/reggae blenders show “a commitment to politics and resistance”)
VV Brown (modern day doo-wop from one of 6music’s “Sound of 2009″ top ten)
+ many more…
Sam adds, “We’re still waiting to hear back from many other bands, most of which will either turn up and play, or be announced over the next few days. Trying to cobble together a line up suitable of a closing party at a weeks notice is extremely difficult, so many thanks to all the bands/managers/agents who have helped us so far, and to those whom have shown support.”
Proceeds from the gig will help support the work of Love Music Hate Racism.
