LONDON RALLIES AGAINST THE NAZI BNP THIS WEDNESDAY

The fascist BNP is trying to get its first MEPs elected on Thursday 4 June. There is a real danger that the BNP could grab enough votes to grab a London seat. They could get in with as little as 8 percent of the vote. Each Euro seat they grab would gain them public resources, a veneer of “respectability” and contacts with other far right and fascist parties in Europe.

Love Music Hate Racism will have a presence at a rally called for this Wednesday (29th April) to crush the nazi BNP in the capital during the upcoming European elections. The rally is called by the Unite Against Fascism campaign and the National Union of Teachers, it takes place at Conway Hall, Red Lion Square, London WC1R 4RL from 7pm. It will feature speakers from across the political spectrum and anti-racist movements from around the country. Representing LMHR will be Asian Dub Foundation and rapper Lowkey from Mongrel, as well as Martin Smith.

Speakers include:

Christine Blower (NUT)
Jerry Bartlett (NASUWT)
Jo Lang (Friends of Blair Peach)
Steve Hart (Unite the union)
Glyn Ford MEP
Dr Abdul Bari (MCB)
Chandrasonic (Asian Dub Foundation)
LowKey(Mongrel/Poisonous Poets)
Martin Smith (Love Music Hate Racism)
Weyman Bennett (UAF)

London is a multiracial city and the vast majority of Londoners are opposed to the fascist politics of the BNP. We can come together to stop the prospect of a BNP MEP in London. But we need to act now. Come to the rally, bring your friends and workmates – and find out how you can help stop the fascist BNP.

Five ways YOU can help stop the BNP:
1. Come to the rally on Wednesday 29 April.
2. Join UAF or donate by phone or online.
3. Order an activist’s pack to leaflet your street, workplace or town centre.
4. Tell your friends and workmates about the BNP threat – and make sure they are registered to vote by Tueday 19 May. 5. Vote on Thursday 4 June.

The Rally will also remember and mark the anniversary of Blair Peach’s murder:

Remembering Blair Peach
Blair Peach was a teacher, an NUT member and a committed anti-fascist who campaigned against the National Front in the 1970s. He was on a demonstration in Southall against the NF on 23 April 1979 when he was killed by a blow to the head from a police officer. Thirty years on we still remember him – but we also have to continue his fight by campaigning against the BNP, today’s equivalent of the Nazi NF.

Every vote against the BNP counts towards stopping them.

…. And this year marks the tenth anniversary of Nazi David Copeland’s Nail Bomb campaign across London:
Vigil to mark ten years since the Soho nailbombing
Thursday 30 April, 6pm,
Old Compton Street, Soho

Nazi nailbomber David Copeland placed his third explosive device in the Admiral Duncan pub on 30 April 1999. It exploded killing three people and wounding dozens more. Unite Against Fascism and Love Music Hate Racism have called a vigil at the site of the bombing to remember Copeland’s victims.
