The British National Party likes to tell journalists it is a “legitimate” political party that has put its Nazi past behind it. But the latest comments from BNP leader Nick Griffin has revealed the hardcore racist ideology that still lies at the organisation’s core.
In an interview today with BBC Radio 4, Griffin dismissed the notion that Black or Asian people could be British as a “politically correct fiction”.

Around 5:30 on 17 April 1999 a nail bomb detonated in Electric Avenue, in the Brixton Market. Fifty people were injured, many of them seriously. One victim was a 23-month-old toddler who had a nail driven through his skull.
Unite Against Fascism and Love Music Hate Racism are calling a vigil to remember those who were injured and traumatised by the bomb and to ensure that this kind of attack on our community is never repeated.
The bomb was planted by nazi David Copeland, who had been a member of the BNP and other far-right organisations. His attacks were racially motivated and were followed by similar attacks targeted at London’s Asian and gay communities.

A campaign by the Brighton and Hove branches of Unite Against Fascism
and Love Music Hate Racism has attracted support from music stars and
celebrities in the city.
The campaign aims to make sure people in the city use their votes in
the June European elections in order to stop the BNP winning a seat.
Bands supporting the campaign include The Go!Team, Brighton’s most
popular Mercury Prize nominated musical export, another favourite with
indie fans and festival goers, the Blood Red Shoes have also leant
support. Other local names joining the cause include Simon Fanshawe
and Atilla the Stockbroker, who has also written a poem for the campaign.
The BNP is a fascist party and needs less than 8% of the vote to win
one of the ten seats available in the South-East region. European
seats are awarded using a proportional Representation method, meaning
a much lower vote is needed for a party to gain success.

Love Music Hate Racism has confirmed The Independent newspaper as our official media partner for the Stoke LMHR Festival on 30th May.
The paper will carry large weekly ads for the Festival, and will trail the event with prominent web banners online.
Some of the weekly ads – in conjunction with some of our trade union partners – will be in the form of special tear-out posters you can put up in your window, or at school, college or work.
There will be a specially-created Independent/LMHR festival “micro-site” where you can find out more about the event and what top music artists and others are saying about it.
Check tomorrow (Friday 5th April)’s edition of The Independent for the first ad.
