There is a serious danger that the fascist BNP will gain seats in the European elections tomorrow if people don’t turn out and vote against them. Your vote can make the difference between the BNP winning and losing.
The time to act is now – make sure you vote against the BNP, and make sure all your friends, colleagues and family understand how important it is for them to get out and vote.
The latest opinion poll from YouGov puts the BNP on 7 percent nationally. That is enough for them to win three seats in three regions: North West England, Yorkshire & the Humber and West Midlands.
It also puts them in spitting distance of two more seats in London and the East of England. But if turnout rises even slightly, the number of BNP seats drops dramatically. A high turnout could shut them out completely.
Some people have used recent polls to write off or play down the threat of the BNP getting its first Euro MP seats. Unite Against Fascism believes these arguments are dangerously complacent. They run the risk of undermining efforts to mobilise the anti-fascist vote on 4 June.
In the past months we have witnessed the worst financial crisis and economic recession since the 1930s. Unemployment in Britain now stands at 2.2 million looks set to rise further.
The BNP is trying to exploit this hardship to spread its message of race hatred. More recently it has tried to tap into public anger at MP expenses. These factors are feeding into a dramatic rise in BNP poll ratings.
It’s much easier to stop a breakthrough by the fascists than reversing one that’s already taken place. And the BNP can be stopped in these elections – but only if people vote. We need to get the message out: If you don’t vote you are making it easier for the BNP – but if you do vote you can help block them. Vote tomorrow to stop the BNP.
