We’re delighted to announce our main lineup for what should be a spectacular LMHR Northern Carnival in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, on Saturday 1st May.
Music with a message
We’ve teamed up with Barnsley Council to put on a show with something for everyone that will send a clear message that racism is rejected by the majority of Yorkshire people.
Playing live on the day will be:
CHIPMUNK
UB40
REVEREND & THE MAKERS
MUMZY STRANGER
and DEVLIN
Fringe events
In addition, there’ll be a host of top local bands like The Rabbits, Gaia, The Delicateers, plus NINETEEN fringe events taking the place across the town – so it’s well worth coming into Barnsley for the whole day and night.
Get tickets
Tickets priced just £8 are available from the following outlets:
Barnsley Civic (from Saturday 27 March)
HMV Cheapside & Metrodome, Barnsley (from Tuesday 30 March)
The Civic on 0845 1800 363 (from Thursday 1 April)
And from local LMHR groups across Yorkshire and the North from Wednesday 31 March.

The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican will be playing at the Folk Against Facism leg of the festival. We do everything from Judas Priest to Vera Lynn on geetars, banjos, ukuleles and accordion.
It’s gonna get a bit nuts… seeing as we think the BNP are bobbins and we have the microphones!
Opening song: This Town Ain’t Big Enough For Both Of Us (by Sparks)… check out the video on our new website http://www.thebarstewardsons.com

How much money of our council tax is going to pay for this gig ?
Baby J said:
I think the answer is nothing. As long as we have a good turn out on the day and the carnival is supported the carnival won’t cost the council or the people of Barnsley a penny and may well boost the economy of the town significantly.
Smita said:
hey, anywhere i can get tickets from in Leeds?
tash said:
We had a comment here replying to Alan Brown as well.
tash said:
Hi Smita – you could try the Leeds LMHR activists, who are organising this gig in Leeds. Their contact details are at the bottom of the story.

Last night we wrote a nice little song for our slot on the Folk Against Facism stage of the festival for Mr Nick Griffin. We hope to record it soon and post it on our site so that on the day you can all join in… we’ll keep you posted folks!

The Blackout have just sent a message saying they’re playing as well but what time are they likely to be on?
Arf said:
So no london festival no more?
tash said:
@ Arf
We’re having to postpone the London festival because the London local authorities concerned wouldn’t grant us permission to hold it before the general election. We’ve therefore reluctantly agreed to reschedule to later in the summer, and details will be released soon.
Just got to hold on a bit! In the meantime, you could go to our big Barking gig next Saturday.

@ Tom Pape – and anyone else with young kids…
We’ve just updated the info above: kids under four can go to the Barnsley event for free – but you will still need to obtain a (free) ticket for them as space is limited.
jason simms said:
Will there be coaches to the festival from the mids?
gilly said:
@Emily Yeah The Blackout are playing. They will be playing at the main carnival event in the County Way Car Park 4pm til 10pm. Complete line up and times to be announced shortly.
Baby J said:

are there coaches from chesterfield again ??

Was just checking out the line up before buying tickets, but now I’ve changed my mind and probably won’t go. And reason for this? Devlin on stage. Having him there is not exactly the best way of fighting BNP, is it? Just listen to “Community Outcast” lyrics. The latest, updated version.
Lee said:
hi peter, can you clarify what you mean as we dont follow? As it happens, Devlin is not now playing the event due to a scheduling clash – his replacement will be announced early this week.

@ becca @ james if you go to this page http://lovemusichateracism.com/category/carnival-2010/ and click on the download flyer link, there are some numbers for tickets and coach information.
