Musicians and activists unite against the EDL in London

Love Music Hate Racism joined a demonstration called by Unite Against Fascism on Friday 5 March. Our protest was against the racist English Defence League (EDL) a group who were marching to support the islamophobe Dutch MP Geert Wilders.

Musicians including Sam Duckworth AKA Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly came out in force to oppose the march and joined with activists on the day.

Other musicians including Kieran Leonard sent messages of support to the 400 demonstrators who blocked the route of the EDL’s march for over two hours by linking arms and chanting anti-fascist slogans.

Police later allowed the drunken thugs to move to parliament as they shouted racist taunts and sang islamophobic songs

Peter Hain MP, veteran anti-racist and founder of the Anti Nazi League, said: “The English Defence League, together with their allies the BNP, represent a racist and fascist threat – not just to Muslims but to our Black, Asian and Jewish citizens too.”

LMHR are now calling upon all anti-racist musicians and fans to support the UAF demonstration against the EDL in Bolton on Saturday 20 March.
